Xt3 Social Networking

Xt3 and World Youth Day 2008

www.xt3.com has been chosen as the first ever official exclusive social networking platform for a World Youth Day. The name ‘Xt3’ comes from bringing ‘Xt’ (Christ) into the 3rd Millennium.

From 15th - 20th July 2008, young people from all over the world will make a pilgrimage of faith to the vibrant city of Sydney, Australia. With Pope Benedict XVI, they will go on a journey of discovery and together grow in the strength and courage to live their faith in the modern world. This event will be a wonderful opportunity to build new bridges of friendship and hope between continents, peoples and cultures. Xt3 is therefore seen by the Catholic Church as a primary tool to secure a legacy for this great event and provide the springboard for renewal throughout the Church. It will be an essential communication tool for young Catholics and the Church leading up to, during and between future World Youth Days, providing them with support, inspiration and opportunities every day, wherever they are.

What is Xt3.com?

Xt3.com is a modern, slick and easy to use social networking platform which compares favourably to those currently on offer, eg Facebook, Myspace etc. Young people have the opportunity to network effectively with peers who share their own interests, belief, values and desire to make the world a better place.

It will allow young people to connect with each other in many ways: Each diocese will have a network, plugging young people back into what’s going on in their area. Movements and key initiatives will also have the opportunity to form their own networks, and so be empowered to communicate more effectively and reach out to other young people in the Church.

“Groups” will enable young people to start their own groups, drawing in others from the site with similar interests. The potential is huge - from film to music, from medicine to law, from development work to banking, from pro-life to social justice. In time we hope to offer great mentoring opportunities and online seminar sessions, connecting leading experts in the relevant field with these young groups.

Xt3, a legacy for young people after WYD08

WYD 08 Sydney see this as their way to provide a great legacy for young people across the world. The Xt3 platform will receive unprecedented publicity and profile up to, during and after WYD Sydney 08. Now, for the first time, each young person has to register online to attend WYD 08. The total number of registrations is expected to exceed 250,000 from around the world. These young people will be invited to join Xt3 and so form the core of what we expect to be a phenomenal social networking platform.

Xt3 will also receive immense offline publicity and exposure on the broadcast of the events, inviting tens of millions of young people from around the world to join this core. This will act as a springboard to the launch of a truly global community. This platform will offer young people the opportunity to create, consume and share positive content in an unprecedented way. We hope that it will be the cornerstone for a powerful media channel, enabling talented young people to express their gifts in a positive way. In this way it will become a truly positive alternative culture which will reflect the values and aspirations of the Gospel, full of faith, fun and life.

Xt3 will enable young people of integrity, vision, commitment and talent to connect every day and stand up for what they believe in, and grow in faith, hope and charity. This is the essential reason why it will succeed. As Pope Benedict said to young people in his letter to them for WYD 08: “The difficulty that adults undoubtedly find in approaching the sphere of youth in a comprehensible and convincing way could be a sign with which the Spirit is urging you young people to take this task upon yourselves. You know the ideals, the language, and also the wounds, the expectations and, at the same time, the desire for goodness felt by your contemporaries. This opens up the vast world of young people’s emotions, work, education, expectations, and suffering. Each one of you must have the courage to promise the Holy Spirit that you will bring one young person to Jesus Christ in the way you consider best, knowing how to “give an explanation to anyone who asks you for a reason for your hope, but [to] do it with gentleness and reverence (cf. 1 Pet 3:15).”

It is young people themselves who will create the new culture of life and be that witness of hope and love to their generation. This platform will enable them to unite their efforts in a powerful yet gentle way and be the light shining in the darkness, so that others may see the great potential in their own lives. After the event, Xt3 will be the natural meeting place for all the young people who have met in Sydney (sharing photos, video and stories) and all those who want to catch up with all the great things coming out of the event. With ever increasing functionality, this site will meet the daily needs of young people where they are and will be run by young people for young people. When the next WYD is announced in Sydney, Xt3 hopes to be the natural partner for the next WYD, using its huge membership to make the next WYD even better than the last. Xt3 now seeks young people from across the world to help build upon these new foundations.

“It is to you, young people, that the task first falls of bearing witness to the Faith and bringing into the third millennium the Gospel of Christ, who is the Way, the Truth, the Life.” Pope John Paul II

“Allow me, dear young people, to consign this hope of mine to you: you must be those builders! You are the men and women of tomorrow. The future is in your hearts and in your hands. God is entrusting to you the task, at once difficult and uplifting, of working with him in the building of the civilization of love.” Pope John Paul II (WYD02, Toronto)
