The Marriage and Family Life Project Office

Responsibility in the Bishops' Conference for steering the Celebrating Family work and for fostering care of marriage and family life falls within the Department for Christian Responsibility and Citizenship. Within this Department Bishop John Hine, Auxiliary Bishop in Southwark Diocese, chairs the Committee for Marriage and Family Life. It must be noted however that the work of other departments, agencies and offices of the Bishops' Conference also impacts on marriage and family life from a variety of perspectives. Among these are the Liturgy Office, Catholic Education Services, Caritas Social Action, the Department for Dialogue and Unity and the National Office for Vocations.

Elizabeth Davies

Elizabeth Davies has responsibility for coordinating the national working and advisory groups convened to identify, evaluate and create processes and materials for parishes and dioceses participating in the Celebrating Family initiatives. As Marriage and Family Life Project Officer, Elizabeth also liases with the Diocesan Network of Marriage and Family Life Coordinators and with organisations working within the Catholic Church in support of marriage and family life. Appointed in May 2003, Elizabeth worked first on the Listening 2004: My Family My Church initiative from which the current Celebrating Family: Blessed, Broken, Living Love project work stems. She has a Master's Degree in Community Leadership (Family Ministry) from Regis University, Denver, has trained as a Registered Director of Rainbows and as a marriage preparation facilitator with Catholic Marrige Care. Elizabeth is also a member of the General Assembly of INTAMS, the International Academy for Marital Spirituality in Belgium, a Trustee of the FLAME network and an online tutor for Ushaw Institute.

Veronica Muphy

Veronica Murphy was appointed in July 2007 to take short term responsibility for the development and delivery of elements of the Celebrating Family projects, specifically the management of the DVD to support Home is a Holy Place, the development of an Everybody's Welcome roadshow and an audit of existing marriage and family life training opportunities. Adviser for Adult & Parish Formation in Salford Diocese for 12 years, Veronica was previously Head of English in a large Catholic comprehensive school. Currently also secretary to the Department for Evangelisation and Catechesis, Veronica holds a Master's degree from the Department of Religions & Theology at Manchester University.

Roberta Canning

Roberta Canning volunteered in September 2006 to take responsibility for servicing the needs of the Mental Health Working Group, maintaining contact details of those interested or working in this area and the twice yearly production of a newsletter.

Annabelle Wiiliams is administrator in the Marriage and Family Life Project Office and is pictured at her desk where she will be working Monday-Wednesday each week.
