Bishop Mark Davies was born in Manchester on the 12th May 1959, and attended St Richard’s RC Infant and St Robert’s RC Primary school, Manchester, Broadstone Hall County Primary school, Stockport, and St Anne’s High school, Stockport. Following his secondary education, he attended the University of Durham and trained for the priesthood at Ushaw College, Durham for the Diocese of Salford.
He was ordained for the priesthood on the 11th February 1984 at St Joseph’s, Reddish, Stockport, by Bishop Thomas Holland, Bishop of Salford.
His pastoral appointments began as assistant priest at Our Lady of Grace, Prestwich (March-September 1984) and St Mary’s Swinton (September 1984-December 1988).
In January 1988, he was appointed private secretary to Bishop Patrick Kelly, the then Bishop of Salford and he remained in that post until December 1992.
He was appointed parish priest of St John Bosco, Blackley, Manchester 1992-2003 and became Dean of North Manchester Deanery.
He was appointed Vicar General of the Salford Diocese in January 2003-present.
He became parish priest at St Teresa’s, Little Lever (2003-05); St Joseph’s, Longsight (2005-07), and Holy Family, New Springs, Wigan (2008-2010).
His ordination to the Episcopate took place on the feast of the Chair of St Peter, Monday 22 February 2010 at St Anthony’s Church, Wythenshawe, Manchester
