The Bishops’ Conference of England and Wales is a full member of the ecumenical instruments – known as ‘Churches Together’ – established in 1990 to enable the various Christian Churches and ecclesial communities to collaborate with each other and undertake joint work when appropriate. There are different expressions of the Churches Together for each of the nations of England, Wales, Scotland and Ireland, and for the four nations together. At national level, the Bishops’ Conference is a member of Churches Together in England and of CYTUN (Churches Together in Wales). At four nations level, it is a member of Churches Together in Britain and Ireland, through which the Churches throughout these islands can share in conversation together and tackle issues which need the wider canvas.
Through these ecumenical bodies the Churches are engaged in a process of growing together and exploring new forms of partnership. Currently work is undertaken on International Affairs, Church and Society, Local Ecumenism, Church Life, Inter-Faith Relations, Mission and Racial Justice, International Students, Spirituality, Youth work and the Community of Women and Men.
